Bike Slavic Village

Cleveland Bicycle Week bike trail morgana run washington reservation mill creek falls metroparks
On May 14th at 5:30pm, in conjunction with Cleveland Bicycle Week, join bicyclists from all over the greater Cleveland area to discover the side of Slavic Village you haven't seen.

The bike ride will begin at Washington Reservation (3841 Washington Park Blvd.) at 5:30pm. Riders will have a chance to tour the 9-Hole First Tee Golf Course and the Washington Park Horticulture Center. At 6:30pm we will leave Washington Reservation and ride the Morgana Run trail through industrial and residential areas of the neighborhood to the Mill Creek History Center. Participants will have the opportunity to tour the history center and enjoy the water fall. A light snack will be provided at the history center. At 7:45pm the group will ride back to the Washington Reservation.

5K Morgana RUN!

Start training now for the 2nd Annual 5K Morgana RUN! which is scheduled for Saturday May 31st 9:00am (registration begins at 8:00am). This year the race will begin at Aetna Rd. and E.75th St. Parking is available in the Third Federal Corporate parking lot (located at 7100 Aetna Rd.). For more information on the 5K Morgana RUN! walk/run and to register for the race check us out at Hermes Sports and Events.

City Year Cleveland Hosts 100 Hours of Power

City Year Cleveland is hosting its first annual 100 Hours of Power - five days of round the clock powerful, transformative service in Cleveland's Ward 5 /Slavic Village neighborhoods. Hundreds of community volunteers will join the Corps Members and Staff at City Year Cleveland in performing service throughout the day and night, May 13th - 17th.

The opening ceremony will be held May 13 at 8am at Zelma George Watson Recreation Center and will kick off the first hour of service. Projects throughout the week include planting a community garden, painting houses, cleaning up empty lots, painting and maintenance at Fullerton and Willow K-8 Schools, painting a mural on the Morgana Run Trail, and numerous other community beautification projects!

The closing ceremony will celebrate the 101st hour of service and will be held at 2pm on May 17th at Cleveland's Willow K-8 School.

Morgana Little League Registration Taking Place

Morgana Park Leagues (MPL) is pleased to announce its 2008 Season, its 49th consecutive year of youth instructional play, to start on Saturday May 31st. This year’s expanded sandlot play activities benefit from a continuing partnership with the Cleveland Baseball Federation (CBF). All organized MPL - CBF 2008 Season youth play will be free of charge to all local participants who register.

MPL sign-ups for young children’s co-ed T-Ball (4-6), older girls’ softball (7-16), and boys’ hardball leagues (7-15), are now underway and scheduled into the months of May and June. Special instructional clinics, lead by CBF, will be provided to all adult leaders, and youth team participants, in separate training sessions during May. A call for adult volunteers, to serve as prospective coaches,
commissioners, league play coordinators, managers, and scorekeepers, at any & all levels, is now underway. To download the registration form please do so here: Morgana Little League Youth Registration Form

MPL Head Commissioner Norm Shipley notes that more teams at all age levels are expected, with additional programs including more senior boys and girls league teams, creating more MPL-CBF team play for youth ages 15 to 19. A new MPL adult men’s (over 18) softball league will ‘warm up the fields’, with weekend summer play scheduled to start Friday evening, May 23rd, of the Memorial Day weekend.

An MPL Season registration/sign-up session opportunity will be held on Saturday April 26th, offered from 2 to 5 pm, at the Arabica Coffee House/Slavic Village, 3664 East 65th Street.

A second and final MPL ‘call for registrations’ meeting will be held on Saturday May 3rd, from 2 to 5 pm, at the Fleet Library Community Room, 7224 Broadway Avenue. This session will also include a planning meeting for parents, managers, and coaches, held after 3:30 pm.

Slavic Village Walking Club

The Slavic Village Walking Club is at it again. Every Wednesday and Friday starting April 2nd at 7:00pm they will be getting together to enjoy the weather, meet the neighbors, and get some exercise.

On Wednesdays they will be meeting in the parking lot of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church (6700 Lansing Ave.) and on Fridays they will be meeting in the parking lot of St. Stanislaus Church (3649 E. 65th St.).

Everyone is welcome to join the walking club on there weekly walks, which will continue until early fall.
